Bullant Bulletin - Round 2

Match Reports

Under 19s

The Under 19.5's delivered a clinical and mature performance in Round 2, securing a 136 to 21 win over the Cougars. From the first bounce, the group displayed incredible discipline, sticking to the structures and maintaining a team-first mentality that allowed for a massive spread of 13 different goal scorers.

It was a complete 4 quarter effort, with the boys never taking their foot off the pedal and showing great respect for the opposition by playing high-quality football until the final siren.

Squarci led the scoring with three majors, while Young and Parnell were standout contributors in what was an impressive display of talent and work rate across the entire field.

Reserves

The Reserves faced a real test this week, overcoming a slow start to secure a thrilling four-point victory against the Kilsyth. It was clear early on that we needed to improve our intensity to match our opponents, who kept the pressure high and the scoring tight throughout the first three quarters.

Fortunately, the group dug deep and in the last quarter started to roll, finding the composure and drive necessary to stay in the hunt. In a finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats, it was a match winning goal before the siren by veteran Lucisano that sealed the 48 to 44 win.

Lucisano finished with three majors for the day, while Castelow and Hildebrand were instrumental in ensuring the team fought right until the final whistle.

Seniors

In a hard-fought Round 2 encounter, The Seniors faced some tough competition from the Kilsyth, who kept the contest tight for much of the afternoon. Both sides brought the defensive heat, creating a high-pressure environment that made every possession count.

However, led by a standout five-goal performance from Jessup and a consistent team effort across the ground, the Bullants eventually found their rhythm and powered away to victory with a final score of 93 to 67.

It was a solid, workmanlike performance that highlighted the squad's depth, with Rattray-Wood and Hanrahan also featuring prominently among the best on ground.

ANZAC DAY ROUND

ANZAC Day footy is back at Ted Ajani this week, and it’s shaping up to be a cracking day. Come down and watch the undefeated Bullants take the field as they look to keep the momentum rolling.

There’ll be plenty happening around the ground with a great community atmosphere, good footy, and something for everyone.

Make sure you grab one of our famous Bullant Burgers while you’re there, along with plenty of other food and drinks available throughout the day and joining the army on Bullant Hill cheering the boys on a day of remembrance and mateship.

Every ANZAC Day we remember TED KELLY

Our beloved Bullant and a Rat of Tobruk.

Ted joined the Australian Army in 1939, aged 15.

Ted was a Rat of Tobruk - the allied soldiers who defended the Port of Tobruk against the Afrika Corps. During the conflict the enemy had twice the manpower and strong air support. The rats withstood tank attacks, artillery barrages and daily bombings in the searing desert heat during the day and bitterly cold nights.

The Germans described the Australian-led forces as “rats” since they were living in underground caves and dugouts. The Australians claimed the “Rats of Tobruk” name as a badge of pride – striking their own unofficial badge in the likeness of a rat made from a German bomber the rats had shot down with captured German guns.

The defenders of Tobruk did not surrender, they did not retreat. Their determination, bravery, and humour, combined with the aggressive tactics of their commanders, became a source of inspiration during some of the war's darkest days.

The decisive final battle was the Battle of El Alamein where Ted fought. It was a turning point of the World War 2.

Following battles in the Middle East, Ted fought at the battle of Lae on the Kakoda trail. This campaign in New Guinea involved capturing two major Japanese bases. It was an important supply port for airbases. It was here that Ted was injured and returned home in 1944.

On Saturday all Bullant sides will pay their respects to all those who served in all wars. The “Ted Kelly” medal will be awarded to a player from each Bullant team who displays the ANZAC spirit of courage, endurance, discipline and mateship.
